The calm in the middle of the storm....
Monday, March 13, 2006
I should be deemed the worst student in NUS.. I skipped the whole of last week's lessons (except lab which I cannot zao) for.. guess what..? Hall activities.
Sheares Bazaar was quite a joke actually.. setting up at Science meant literally no business at all.. not like it was really anyone's fault for the lousy location.. that is if I buy the story that NUSSU released the passwords late and blah blah blah (but shouldn't that happen every year?) And of course OSA's determination to wreck havoc on our bazaar by not allowing external vendors... food.. blah blah diminished our chances of drawing the crowd...
Sold Asics stuff like last year.. though only sold 4 pairs of shoes.. but plus a lot of linglinglonglong other stuff we (block comm) managed to earn about 90+ bucks.. which isn't too bad la =)
So that went my 1st three days of the week.. haggling with potential customers at the bazaar stall.. slacking away just waiting for customers (and flies) to come by.. calling my supplier for more stock coz there just weren't enough variety to attract the real serious shoe buyers.. Not much loss in my academic world i say.. coz my early week is usually quite free...
The 2nd half of the week was when I fulfilled my duty as an ERC member.. must admit haven't been a good one.. but Open House really did take its toll.. painting (and designing) humongous banners on thursday.. blowing millions of balloons on Friday.. and decorating the hall almost like a mini-Chingay as well as transforming the MPSH booth into a lounge... Turned nocturnal for those 2 days...
But somehow efforts did not seem to pay off.. crowd patronizing the stall was minimal.. even lesser people came down to hall (so much for the rara decorations).. It wasn't like last year when there was actually a crowd and I would enthusiastically approach people to join SECC.. not only was there a much dwindled crowd this year it's also kinda strange asking people to join the hall coz most of the time they don't really know what a hall is in the 1st place..
I would have gathered that if the Comm Chair weren't Mark and Yiling I wouldn't be so siao-on about open house.. but that again I witnessed both the dark and bright sides of human nature.. while people chao-kenged and didn't turn up to help while the rest slogged through the night.. or even smoked out with brilliant excuses.. there were those who came to help out of pure goodwill and friendship.. like Jeannie, Yiling, Zibin, Shyuan, Adrian, Darius blah blah blah... A small helping hand.. a great shoulder of comfort.
Now is the brief calm in the middle of the storm.. the impending assignments ready to be handed in.. lessons to catch up.. part 2 of mid-term tests.. I'm reduced to hiding in the depths of HSS library in a little cubicle trying to catch up on 12 hours of webcasts which I sorely missed coz I was trying to focus on other subject's tests.. This week is catching up week.. for next week when I get back my laptop it'll be time to figure out what Matlab is all about.. and of course.. compose my Science of Music midi..
which is essentially going to be the MafBrothers Song (I composed it 4 years ago haha.. remodified and added some impressive stuff)
And yes talking about my laptop.. I marched into the Fujitsu centre on Friday demanding an explanation why it's taking so long to send the bloody spare parts over to be repaired. I threatened to complain to the head office coz somewhere along the fucking line someone is probably slacking away and threw the order form away or something. While the person there claimed it is not his fault I still demanded a number to call so that whoever is causing the delay gets screwed big time.
And later that day I got a call saying that my laptop will be ready next (which means the coming) wednesday. Assholes. The world doesn't turn if no one gets fucked. Though they told me there's 1 more part which I'm going to pay for.. which brings the repair cost to $1266.. I didn't have the energy to argue with them coz I was half asleep (kudos to painting openhouse banner the day before). Rest assured I'll call them later to defend my pockets.
HSS is endearing.. great for loners. I must say I'm quite enjoying the lonely feel now. To live in my own solitary world and not be bogged down by useless commitments or irritating girls.Yes, girls are irritating. What took me so long to see it from Quek's view?
Thanks to Yiyang for the 1.89 litres of lime juice. Hello, Prof Chiwawa.. I'm here to attend your lecturesssssss finally.
