The verdict
Friday, May 26, 2006

"Sometimes reality bites. The best thing you can do in a situation like this is remove its fangs very gently. Treat yourself as kindly as possible. Let your loved ones know that you require some gentle handling too."

It really sucks to read this as a horoscope on the day of results collection. After all, the same time last year my horoscope made a right prediction about my results (check last years blog entry) But well.. I comforted myself that the worse couldn't be that bad.. after all my CAP is already so low it can't drop further (it has been dropping steadily by 0.3 the past 2 semesters).. and even if it did there should be a good buffer the past 3 semesters to keep it from dropping too much. The worst would be to dabao.. sigh...

Heng I didn't dabao.
But my CAP dropped. Damn.
by 0.01

But it was an expected result la.. though I think if the bell curve wasn't drawn and it's based on marks I should get a bit better. But oh well. Shan't think so much about it. Think I shall put my IA plans next next sem on hold and see if there's a way to pull it up to a decent graduation honours.

And I'm glad to say I got every grade possible in all my NUS papers.. except for the extremes of A+, D- and F. Actually if you stack them up on a chart they make a bell curve ha. That's right I got a D before (go ahead, despise me) and I got my very first A in NUS (yeah go ahead, despise me further) for Science of Music!! This module is just wonderful.. It's like 5 times the result for 5% of the effort compared to my Chem Eng modules.

I'm so glad I'm taking a one semester break from this crazy (mental) institution.

So.. what better way to kill the night by
kiling pigs.

If you are a newbie wanting to play the game.. JOIN ME and SUMMER!! We're only level 20+ easy to catch up!

Job
Gotta sleep early tonight.. coz gotta go to work tomorrow.. sigh.. actually I dun really feel like going to work.. as in I'm so used to the slacking live.. and I'm going alone probably in a small office with all other guys looking at a screen of names all the time... (data entry).. The place is bloody far for me (means waking up early = sleep early = less maple) and cannot take leave. Sigh.. there goes my crashing SECC plans.

At least things would be a bit different if Kenny got the job as well..

Haaai.. How I wish I got my last job back.. it was really good-paying.. reasonably slack.. and flexible.. had fun people around.. good boss.. nearby.. good places to eat.. sigh.. why my boss never call me back??

Well.. at least I got some income now..

Movies
There are so many movies to watch!! DaVinciCode.. Over the Hedge (seriously I think it's going to be the funniest show coz EVERY TRAILER I WATCH IS FUNNY!).. X-Men III!!! I can't wait to watch all of them but have to wait for the rest of them to come back from overseas.. haha otherwise it'll be bang-seh..

Especially DaVinci.. I bought the book already but am refraining myself from reading it coz Cailin says it will spoil the show.. Should I read it?? Really tempted to.. If I watch the show 1st will I spoil the book since I know the whole story already?? After all.. I did spend more money on the book.... heh.

至尊红颜
This is about the only TV show that I'm watching now.. I mean.. no other shows on TV are worth watching.. other than the occasional SuperBand which clashes with So You Think You Can Dance.. didn't watch American Idol this season coz i didn't watch from beginning anyway..

Anyway.. back to the show.. which got really horrible today.. I'm damn pissed of by the bloody bitch on the show and it's ridiculous to complain to anyone about it so the only way of venting it out is to blog it.. grrr..

Ok so the show is a standard Channel8 'blockbuster'.. big names.. predictable plot.. like I already know the whole story by watching the trailer at the beginning.. The restaurant will be taken over.. Terence Cao will be the bad guy at the end.. the granny probably will die.. and Fann Wong will come back and save the whole world. The only bit of unpredictableness Mediacorp likes to play is which guy she will choose at the end but that, seriously, is the least of my concern.

Oh but it will be a shock if someone who doesn't deserve to die, dies.. esp so early in the show. (sorry for the spoiler if you haven't watched today's episode) Worse still by a bloody unreasonable bitch.. Even worse still 2 people who don't deserve to die, die. I hope Felicia Chin doesn't die.. pls.. she's the cutest thing on the show.

So there are some things you can learn about Mediacorp shows to prepare you for the worst before watching
  • Every show has a standard bitch. She'll be the cause of all the trouble. I won't be surprised if she'll be the cause of the restaurant's downfall. *mentally prepares*
  • If you're too nice, and you're not the main cast, something bad will happen to you.
  • If you're the only policeman in the show, you're probably the only policeman in Singapore. Same applies for lawyers, doctors, other professions.
  • There's only one other country in the world and everyone will go there for holiday/work/someweirdreason.
  • And of course, we all know the Law of Coincidence stands true.
Bleah..
I better catch the show tomorrow.

Ok.. off to maple!

Yes, this blog is still living....
Sunday, May 21, 2006

It's really long since I last posted.. hehe.. decided to post today since no one is Mapling now..

Yeah.. I've taken to the wildly addictive hobby of playing Maplestory. It's really a dumb game to play an probably the most childish thing game I've every played but it has become a good gathering ground for Shearites haha.. Yah every night I'll see Chinteng, Wendy, Kenny, Jeyee, Phoebe, Suzy, Weijie in the Bootes.. But they are too high level already la.. So all I do now is walk around doing quests with my unlikely training buddy.. SummerAlermeerDong... haha

Anyway.. here's a cool video I found on Youtube.. haha

I'm still slacking away 1 month after exams haha.. the feeling of slacking is really great.. waking up late.. having nothing to do.. but of course at the back of my mind I hear my bank screaming of hunger.. oh well.. maybe should really start looking for a job soon. Haha.

And to book air ticket.. book accomodation.. plan travel plans.. ship stuff over.. financial loan...

Oh no oh no...

Back in Action!
Friday, May 12, 2006

Gosh it really does feel good to have a brand new laptop!

Not that it's REALLY brand new.. but the recent computer crash warranted me a NEW HARD DISK.. haha so I actually got the better deal since I wanted to reformat my laptop in the 1st place... =)

Took days to download and install everything.. though my home comp is not crazed with spyware (it's the next thing i'm reformatiing) but it's really exciting to have a fast laptop with cool new applications! Adobe Photoshop CS2! Adobe Premiere Pro 2! Yahoo Widgets with many many cool widgets now cluttering my desktop hahahaaaa..

And I cleared out my room at home.. whoa took out 2 full huge garbage bags of trash.. and of course dug out old old fossilised secrets of yesteryear.. I haven't cleared out those cupboard ever since JC2! Can you imagine reading your own GP essays after 4 years?? Haha.. reading old messages from Evelyn, Yanru... reading rubbish I jot down in my BlackNoteBook during BMT.. Looking through Prom photos.. digging out CDs of council videos.. and er.. the what-is-supposed-to-be-our-Stepping-Down-Book. *ahem*

I'm going to the bookshop tomorrow to buy a big clear folder file to file all my memories up.. I'll probably take some photos and post them up here haha..

Oh.. maybe it's time to take Kayping's scanner home for that purpose =)

Everything That I Wanted to Blog About
Sunday, May 07, 2006

Yeah.. it's time to start crapping about whatever I wanna blog about the past few weeks.. never really had the mood/time to blog during the exam time.. and after exams I was busy preparing for this post.. haha you'd know why as you read on.. and this cost my laptop.. yea.. the extensive deleting of giga amounts of disk space probably took a toll on my hard disk and it CRASHED to it's death.. now in the hospital (AGAIN) awaiting repair.. I wonder how long I have to wait again this time.. sigh....

EXAMS
I am now a Year 3 student! This sounds crazy but I've just completed my 2nd year in NUS.. I mean it was like not long ago when I just went for my medical checkup.. just went for all the crazy orientation camps.. and now the whole cycle just went past the 2nd time.

Well.. I must say this this time rounds my exams weren't as bad as last semester's.. at least I was more prepared.. thanks to the never ending continuous tests along the semesters that the lecturers slotted whenever they had the chance to.. though I never really studied terribly hard for them.. it was nevertheless helpful in lightening the workload off the final revisions.. (Imagine if I diligently did my tutorials and assignments and studied consistently throughout the semester.. I wouldn't even need to study for the finals la! haha)

But well.. if anything were to kill me.. it would be examinations itself.. As in.. the papers for modules which I thought I had a good grasp in were terribly difficult.. massacring everyone.. while the papers for modules I was so-so in were terribly easy.. or SAME AS PAST YEAR/HOMEWORK/TEXTBOOK and I didn't realise so everyone will just climb on top of me again.. sigh. While deep down I knew what I was doing this semester round.. the bell curve still has to be drawn and reality still has to set in.. the exams will just kill me and my CAP will still take the toll..

So what the hell are examinations? They are supposed to test your understanding of the topic right? If you understand the topic well, you get an A and if you don't understand at all you get an F.. right? So why do professors set ultra difficult papers and kill the whole world such that you probably get an A if you get 50% of the paper right? Why must the bell curve be drawn such that even if you know your stuff but the whole world does better than you you'll still get a C? Worse still if the rest of the world does better than you because they remembered that the question came out in the tutorials and start copying the answers wholesale but you didn't.. coz you studied the tutorials weeks before..?

Sigh.. compared to the last semester.. where I did badly and hoped I did well (which I didn't).. this time I did ok but am very very worried that I won't do well.

I was just thinking the other day and telling some of my friends that it's such a waste for me to have a track record of reasonably good grades from PSLE, 'O' Levels, 'A' Levels.. only to screw up in NUS.. which is what really matters at the end.

Such is life. Rather unfair.

IF I WERE TO TAKE ANOTHER PATH...
In me and gabe's usual laments about our horrid faculty.. I was just saying if I really took another path in my undergraduate life.. to pursue what I really wanted to study and not 'take a professional degree' as my parents wanted.. I would have very much wanted to study Mass Comm in NTU. Not only will I really love what I'm doing (instead of spending all my time staring at equations which make no sense to me), at least with my decent Photoshop and video editing skills, public awareness and that weeny bit of wackiness.. it shouldn't be hard for me to survive there...

Also, I could stay in hall there with no regrets.

MISSING HALL
Sometimes i really wonder how much different my life will be if I didn't stay in hall. Who are the friends that I will hang out with? What will I be doing everyday after school? Will my results be better? Will I find be attached already by now?

Sure enough, if Chye didn't persuade us to join SECC 2 years ago.. if I hadn't made the decision to stay with my brothers in this orange place then, and subsequently decided to stay on, my life will be so much different... albeit with regrets. I mean, I stay so damn near to NUS and feel bad wasting my money just for the 'hall experience'.

But staying in hall sure gave me a clear reflection on the bandwidth I actually had.. not only in the sense of juggling block comm, hall opening, dance, drama, road relay, secc in year 1, taking up a leadership position in my 2nd year.. but also in the sense of how much I can juggle personal relationships. I have made so many friends the past 2 years.. from my very own blockmates to the crazy dancers to the wild SWOC councillors to just random hall mates just by talking in the comm hall.. it's hard to be really close to every one of them. I even rarely have time for the MAFBrothers staying in hall esp in year 2 when schoolwork and block matters are really engulfing.. not joining dance totally cut me off from their world too.. and Kaiyuan had said quite some time ago that I was, from the beginning 'a deeBlocker through and through', which is true.

But now this is it, the end of my hall life. and it's rather saddening to see my batch of deeBlockers slowly waning away.. for one thing the 'Mark-Gabriel-Chio' clique no longer exists now for a darn stupid reason.. I rarely see Suzanne now too for reasons we all know why.. and so will we all just disappear out of each other's lives after next year? I was wondering how feasable to create a '27th' out of our batch.. to start an 阴魂不散 attitude towards future block or hall activities.. at least we'll always get to meet up.. IBGs after IBGs, buaya weeks after buaya weeks, Block D concerts after Block D concerts.. and relive the good ol days.

There's a reluctance to pack out of my room, and yes it still remains very unpacked at this moment. 've been staying in level 8 for almost a year now but the view of the sea looks a million times better now than ever before. I'm so going to miss my room, my block, my friends.

But for now, at least there's still SECC, SWOC and RAG to look forward to.

SEP
Oh gosh how did I manage to type so much sentimental stuff??

Much as SEP is the thing I'm so looking forward to.. THERE'S SO MUCH ADMIN TO DO!! From finding accomodations to buying the plane ticket to packing my stuff to how to ship my stuff there to when to fly to where am I going to travel there to who i'm going it's just never ending!! and I'm so reluctant to start doing anything.

But it's going to be a greate semester ahead! I'm just so looking forward to it.. hahaaa.. I've been reading Adrian's blog (he's on NOC) and he's like having so much fun there!

And the best thing is ONE SEMESTER OF S/Ued CORE MODULES!! WHEE!!!!

VIDEOS
Ok.. this is the thing that crashed my computer.. if you survived till here.. lemme reward you with some videos I've uploaded on Youtube.. haha.. Yea.. after the infamous Humps video (which is unfortunately taken down already.. I was actually waiting to see how many hits it will go before it stabilises haha). Anyway after that video I decided to use the wonders of youtube to share with you guys the videos I've editied the past few years.. no point letting them rot inside my laptop right? Haha..

27th Students' Council Pubco Video
This was the 1st video I ever edited in my life.. was done during our ELECO camp to showcase my committee to the rest of the elects of the 28th Students' Council. Can say that this was when I really got interested in videomaking!

SECC Prelude
If you're in SECC you probably have watched this before.. It was really fun shooting this video... and a lot of people say 我拍Yiyu拍到很美.. actually I think it's just the hair. Haha.

SECC Closing
Weijie has fantastic acting skills! It was terrible making this video coz I had to stay up at night during the camp days to add in the camp parts of the video... but it was well worth it. Wonderful memories of the camp here.. =)

Sheares Block D Buaya Week Closing Video Part 1
This was the video that we watched on the rooftop during Buaya Week closing. It's a 22 min video so I had no choice but to split it into 3 parts (Youtube puts a cap on 10 mins per video). I went around shooting this video since I was Block Head and didn't play Buaya week.. but it was real heartwarming and brings back great memories of the most fantastic week in Block D.. enjoy.

Part 2
Door-to-door interview with residents start from this video onwards.

Part 3

MnO Video
Oh haha.. you should find familiar elements of the past few videos in this one.. coz I did it for my MNO1001 Video project.. We were supposed to do a video on Cross Cultural Management and we came up with this. And guess what.. we got 18.5/20 for the project.. the HIGHEST IN OUR COHORT!! Haha it was even screened to everyone during lecture.. how cool was that!
But I only got B+ for that module. Narbei. Anyway.. enjoy. =)

Well.. there are many more videos that I edited during my army time.. made an AOCC video CD featuring all the videos that we created during our cadet course...

But of course I can't host them. Haha. After all I was a security officer =)

PHOTOS
The past few posts were some random shots I took using my phone during the exam period. Decided to post them online for remembrance. Enjoy =)
